Cardiac drug’s patent off, desi firms offer cheaper version

Several domestic companies including Glenmark and Lupin have launched generic versions of blockbuster cardiology drug Valsartan at a fraction of the price sold by the innovator, Novartis. Others like Torrent, Cipla and Sun Pharma are expected to follow suit. The drug lost its patent protection on January 16.
